“The GCSE Media curriculum draws upon the theoretical, practical and professional elements of the media to enable pupils to have a greater understanding of our media saturated society. The media theoretical framework is delivered through the study of diverse and challenging media products from a broad range of media forms. Pupils develop practical skills through
the production of a variety of print and digital products that
conform to genre conventions and appeal to target audiences”

Year 9

What will my child be learning this term?

– Pupils are introduced to the Media Framework.
– Pupils will study the marketing of set products No Time to Die and The Man with the Golden Gun.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– Baseline written assessment. Baseline practical assessment of film poster.
– Cumulative assessment on Media Framework.

What will my child be learning this term?

– Pupils complete their study of the film and marketing of Bond films No Time to Die and The Man with the Golden Gun.
– Pupils then explore the news industry and compare The Sun with The Guardian.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– Practical assessment of own Bond DVD cover.
– Written comparison of a Bond poster and unseen product.
– Cumulative assessment including news and film industry.

What will my child be learning this term?

– Pupils study of the media language and representation of magazine set products GQ and Vogue.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– Practical assessment of magazine front cover.
– End of year exam.

Year 10

What will my child be learning this term?

– Pupils will study the media language, representations and contexts of advertising set products of This Girl Can and Quality Street.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– Practical assessment of a fragrance advert.
– Written assessment on Quality Street.
– Cumulative assessment.

What will my child be learning this term?

– Pupils will study the industry and audience aspects of the video game Fortnite.
– Pupils will learn about the music industry including set products of music videos, artist websites and social media.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– Practical assessment of a music online advert.
– Written assessment on the video game Fortnite.
– Cumulative assessment on a range of topics.

What will my child be learning this term?

– Pupils will study the media language, representation, contexts and audiences of The Archers.
– Pupils choose their NEA brief and research.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– NEA research and statement of aims.
– End of year exam.

Year 11

What will my child be learning this term?

– Pupils complete their NEA brief.
– Pupils study TV genre of Sitcoms with set products of Modern Family and Friends.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– Completion of NEA.
– Written assessment on Modern Family.
– Cumulative assessment.

What will my child be learning this term?

– Revision of both Component 1 and Component 2: Section B. Teaching Sitcoms.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– Mock exam in January of C1 and C2-Section B.
– Mock of C2: Section A in March.

What will my child be learning this term?

– Revision of all set products and exam techniques.

How will my child be assessed this term?

– Pupils will take their GCSE examinations.
