On Friday 15th November, TIFS took a mixed squad of Year 9 and 10 girls to compete in The Hampshire Schools Hockey Trophy annual tournament held at Southampton Sports Centre.
There were 8 teams split into two pools of 4 so qualifying for the semi-final stages would prove tricky, playing against teams of Year 11 pupils.
TIFS girls started on a highly positive note with fluid attacking play and solid defending in their first game, which resulted in a pleasing 1-0 victory over Alton. This then continued into the 2nd game against Ditcham Park School which was end to end; again the TIFS team held their nerve and won 1-0. In their final pool game, TIFS were made to dig in and grind out a 0-0 draw against Embley Park to cement their semi-final place.
The semi-final versus Meoncross School was always going to be difficult, bearing in mind the quality of the opposition. TIFS created numerous chances but could not capitalise, and a breakaway goal for Meoncross saw the final score as 0-1.
TIFS played their hearts out and should all be proud of their commitment and enthusiasm on the day.
