TIFS Wimbledon 2017

Yesterday, 74 pupils took part in the second annual TIFS Wimbledon event, kindly hosted by Ventnor Tennis Club. The display of tennis throughout the day was of exceptional quality, and pupils demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout; cheering each other on, being respectful in both victory and defeat and being excellent ballboys/girls. The event took a mirrored format to Wimbledon itself with knockout stages. The four categories for which the winning titles were up for grabs were U13 girls, U13 boys, U15 girls and U15 boys. The U13 girls’ final was between Emily C & Millie K. It was an excellent match with Emily C coming out as our U13 Champion Girl. Our U13 Champion Boy went to Nathan S-B after a close match with Luke S, who battled tremendously and really made Nathan work for the win. The U15 girls’ champion was KC-Leigh P after one of the closest matches of the day against Emmeline B, with some excellent rallies and KC-Leigh coming out the narrowest of victors. Finally, the U15 boys was a hard-hitting back court battle between Max N and Tomas T. Tomas took an early lead, but Max kept his cool and fought back to become the overall winner.
“Overall it was a fantastic day with impeccable behaviour from all. I would like to say a massive thank you to our tennis coach, Linda Jones, for assisting with the day and to my Year 9 Tennis Ambassadors for umpiring the event. Finally, thank you and well done to every pupil who took part and made the day such a success.” – Mr McAllister, Teacher of PE.
