U13 Girls finish 2nd in Chance to Shine Regional Cricket Final
Last Tuesday, the U13 girls’ cricket team travelled to Swindon to represent Hampshire & IOW in the South West of England Regional Final.
Despite damp weather, TIFS took on Builth Wells High School (Wales) for their initial match. TIFS opted to bat first, and scored an impressive 68 runs off 7 overs without losing a single wicket. In response, the Welsh team could only score 33 runs thanks to superb bowling by TIFS.
As the rain held off, TIFS faced Lavington School (Wiltshire) in their second group game. Again batting first, they managed a tremendous score of 77 for the loss of 2 wickets, and restricted their opponents to only 44 runs.
In their final group game, TIFS played Writhlington School (Somerset) and chose to bat first. Our team scored another promising total of 72, having lost 4 wickets. A strong display of bowling and fielding from TIFS saw the Somerset school manage just 43 runs for loss of 4 wickets.
Having won all their group games, TIFS played in the Regional Final against Parkstone Grammar School (Dorset) with a place in the National Final up for grabs. TIFS posted a good score of 50 for the loss of 4 wickets and then tried to restrict Parkstone from scoring too quickly. In a tense battle, with the rain now lashing down, Parkstone secured a victory and TIFS ended the day as runners-up.
“It was a wonderful day’s cricket, and for this team of girls to win the Hampshire round a few weeks ago and then finish in 2nd place at the Regional Final is an incredible achievement!” – Mr Milton.
