Miss Amber Duxbury, Lead for Pupil Mental Health & Teacher of PE
Miss Duxbury hails from North Yorkshire, and joined The Island Free School in 2018. Miss Duxbury has always enjoyed sports, fitness and the outdoors, as a child and into adulthood. From the age of nine she competed nationally and internationally in Tae Kwon Do competitions, until achieving her black belt. Her love of sport continued through Rugby, which she began playing in middle school, and competed in the Rugby League National Finals. Her love for Rugby continued through university where she played for Leeds Beckett Women’s Rugby Union team. Surfing has also been a continuous hobby for Miss Duxbury, which she continues to thoroughly enjoy on the Island’s waves.
Experience
Miss Duxbury attended Settle College in North Yorkshire where she studied for her GCSEs and A-Levels, before achieving her BA (Hons) degree in Physical Education and Outdoor Studies at Leeds Beckett University. Miss Duxbury joined the school as a PE NQT in September 2018 and began the additional role of Mental Health Lead in January 2020. Miss Duxbury’s passion for promoting good mental health began through her study of Psychology at A-Level; this has continued throughout her teaching profession.
