Measuring the Weather

Mrs Walker and Miss Mackett would like to share some fantastic work from Year 8 currently looking into the Weather and Climate. So far this term they have looked at the water cycle and clouds. Here are a few models of the water cycle and cross sections of the sky showing where different clouds appear from .

Year 8 have also been measuring the cloud cover where they live. This is achieved by making a grid and then measuring the cloud cover in ‘otkas’ (or eighths). Here is a selection of images from across the Island where some of Year 8 were blanketed under 8 otkas of stratus clouds, and some pupils were lucky enough to see blue skies.

Pupils have also been looking at how to measure the weather. Mrs Walker and Miss Mackett were very pleased with pupils who made their own pieces of weather equipment.
