TIFS ladies perform superbly at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton!
Following their success in the IOW finals before Easter, TIFS represented the Island last week at the Indoor Cricket Regional Finals held at the home of Hampshire Cricket, the Ageas Bowl.
The U13 girls played on the Tuesday and were drawn against various teams from the South and West of England. In a tense first game against Wadebridge School, Cornwall, TIFS batted really well to score 101 runs but were just beaten with Wadebridge scoring 110. Next up was St. Michael’s School, Dorset, who scored 97 with TIFS falling just short again reaching 90 all out. The third game was against a very strong team from Millfield School, Somerset, who posted 110 and TIFS responded with 80. All three games were a great learning curve, and this was the first time the team has played in the Hampshire League, which puts them in a good position before their outdoor cricket season. A bonus for this team was a surprise meeting with Ladies’ Cricket legend and ex-England captain, Charlotte Edwards, who was happy to pose for a quick photo as she had just signed to coach Hampshire Ladies!
The U15 girls played on Wednesday and it was a similar story with some very good cricket demonstrated by TIFS, who grew in confidence as the day progressed. In their first game, TIFS scored 60 but were beaten by a superb team from Wellington College, Somerset, who posted a huge score of 121. Next up was a defeat to Bournemouth School for Girls, before finally beating Brannel School, Cornwall, by 1 run on the last ball of the game! Again, a sound basis before they play in the Hampshire League this summer.
Well done to all our cricketers, who had an incredible experience competing such a challenging level. We look forward to following their outdoor cricket story this term!
