“Head On” Road Safety Campaign

On Thursday 12th March, the emergency services came to the school to deliver a road safety presentation to Year 10, to better inform pupils of the dangers that come with the responsibilities of driving.
The first part of the demonstration involved a replication of the aftermath of a fatal car crash that happened on the Isle Of Wight. A real-life 999 call and a recorded interview with the parent of the victim were played, and each emergency service arrived in their appropriate vehicle to role-play their responsibilities at a road traffic collision.
The live demonstration was followed by a classroom session, to highlight the effects of dangerous driving on families and the emergency services, as well as the criminal consequences. The impact of this presentation, since its introduction, has seen the reduction of serious road accidents among young people on the Isle Of Wight.
