On Friday 5th October, a squad of 14 year 9 pupils went to Petersfield for the Hampshire Rugby Festival. First up TIFS played Cams Hill School. The game started off slow, resulting in drawing 1-1 with Euan S scoring for TIFS. The second game saw TIFS play against a very physical side from Mayfield School. This time our year 9’s started to show their class with some outstanding rugby winning the game 2-1 with try’s from Euan and Nathan. The third game before lunch was against Mountbatten school, who have been unbeaten since year 7 and last season’s champions. With the game going close to the wire, fine defending from Logan B and Will B saw TIFS win 1-0 with Nathan getting the ball over the line!
After lunch and into the afternoon session TIFS were placed into group 2 alongside Crofton, Applemore, Houndsdown School and Eggar’s school. The first game Regan G ran almost the length of the pitch finding an interception on the last play of the game to win 1-0 against Crofton! Unfortunately this was to be TIFS only win in the afternoon session losing 2-0 against Applemore College and 2-1 Houndsdown, with Nathan finishing the scoring for TIFS. The Island Free School finished 9th overall out of 29 teams!
Year 9 captain Ollie F said “We are really happy with our performance and beating Mountbatten was a real high point of the day. It’s only going to encourage us perform even better next time!”
