U14 Boys Named Isle of Wight Cricket Champions!
On Wednesday, the U14 boys’ cricket team played against Sandown Bay Academy for the IOW cup final. Skipper Jack E winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. This set the tone for a classic encounter. Sandown’s opening batsman was very impressive, contributing a partnership of 70 runs despite good bowling from Ben O, Alfie P and Ollie C. Overall, Sandown set a massive target of 133 for TIFS to chase down in just 20 overs.
TIFS opening batters Tom W and Max S-P did well to keep the scoreboard ticking over and keep Sandown’s dangerous bowling team quiet. After the first wickets fell, incoming batters Toby N and Max H, who smashed the ball at times out the ground, brought the game right to the wire. With the final 2 overs remaining, Harrison B held his nerve to hit the winning runs with just 4 balls remaining.
Mr Marriott said afterwards, “What an incredible achievement – not only to win the cup but the way the boys managed it. Sandown set them a huge target but the boys battled on. It was just a joy to watch and the school can be extremely proud of them.”
