Sarah Sims, Parent Governor
“I’ve been a strong advocate for the Free School movement, ever since the first one launched in West London in 2011. So it’s very exciting for Islanders to have the Island Free School open and I feel passionately committed to the continued successful development of TIFS, as a school offering academic excellence and a nurturing environment to children from all backgrounds, stretching all pupils to their full ability”, says Sarah.
With an extensive career in journalism and PR, writing for national media and businesses, Sarah moved to the Isle of Wight in 2009 after years of working in London to raise her family. “Within the space of five years, Free schools are the top performing state schools in the country – an outstanding achievement and with TIFS spearheading a remarkable period of growth and change taking place in education on the Isle of Wight, as a parent governor I really want to use my skill set to support Team TIFS on this extraordinary journey,” says Sarah.
Sarah grew up in Bromley in Kent, attending a local convent school before studying History of Art at university, and going on to develop a career in journalism in London, working for many years as a contributor to the UK national newspaper and magazine industries. “TIFS is my idea of a dream school. My daughters really enjoy their time at TIFS – as a parent, I feel very lucky that they will be doing their GCSEs here. I couldn’t wish for a better school,” says Sarah.
