Gary Peace, Vice Chair (Child Protection Governor)
““With children of school age, my wife and I were becoming increasingly concerned with the quality of provision of senior school education on the Island. I see The Island Free School as the ‘standard bearer’, for a better and brighter future, for all of our children. This is why I am so enthusiastic about getting involved and helping the school to achieve the aspirations and the vision of its founders,” says Gary Peace.
After leaving school, Gary became an engineering apprentice at the University of Sussex, where he also worked as a Mechanical Engineering Technician. In 1992, he gained an HNC in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (Design) from Brighton Polytechnic.
In 1994 he joined the Metropolitan Police Service in London where he served for 19 years, predominantly as a Detective in a variety of departments and squads. When he left in 2013, to set up his own company, he was Scotland Yard’s sole Network Investigator for all professional standards and anti-corruption investigations.
Gary and his family now live on the Island where he is an independent consultant and Managing Director of ESID Limited, based at the Innovation Centre in Newport. His company provide services in the fields of e-discovery, information security, computer forensics and data recovery, and they have a growing number of public and private sector clients across the country.
In May 2017, Gary was elected the Councillor for Ventnor West.
Gary is a keen sailor and qualified yachtmaster as well as a qualified pilot and Civilian Gliding Instructor RAF VR(T), who has taught Air Cadets to fly solo in gliders.
