The Under 15 Girls travelled to the home of Hampshire and England cricket this week to play in the Indoor County cricket finals, following in the footsteps of the U13 Girls last week.
Their first game was a wake up call as they faced a very well drilled and organised team from St.Swithuns School (Hampshire Champions). The Hampshire team batted first and scored a very impressive 91-4, which the TIFS team did their best to chase down but fell short, scoring 56-6.
Next to play were the winners of the Somerset Round, which was Queen’s College, Taunton. The TIFS girls fielded first and in a wonderful display of catching, fielding and bowling dismissed the Somerset team for 82.This target appeared to be within their grasp but a flurry of wickets midway through the TIFS innings saw the team only reach 66 and suffer their second defeat of the morning.
Undeterred, the TIFS team then took on Liskeard School from Cornwall who chose to bat first. The TIFS girls continued where they had left off in the previous game with some tight bowling, smart fielding and athletic catching to restrict the Cornish team to just 60 all out. A confident display of batting and running between the stumps saw the TIFS team score 61 off the first four overs and record their first victory of the day.
All in all it was a great day of fabulous cricket at an amazing venue. The lessons learnt will be taken outdoors this term as the Under 15 Girls begin playing in a Hampshire league as well as their local IW schools league.
